transitional phase right now where the Old Guard are starting to make way for the next generation of players. That has meant that the likes of Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde are getting consistent starts in the middle of the park.
On the other hand, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos have seen their playing time decrease drastically. Unsurprisingly, there are question marks about their future.
While Kroos has still been pretty involved, things have been tougher for Modric. There have been games when the one-time Ballon d’Or winner has been left on the bench as an unused substitute. Naturally, he is being linked with a move away in January.
Carlo Ancelotti had earlier commented to the media on how he does not expect Modric to leave in January but the player himself is not ruling anything out just yet. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Croatian said:
“I wouldn’t like to get into that now (his departure), there is still a lot of time until winter and the end of the year. I have said it many times, at my age you can’t plan anything in advance, you have to take it one day at a time from game to game and we will see what the future holds for us.”
There is believed to be quite a bit of interest in the signature of Modric. As a result, it is smart on his part to keep his cards close to his chest and not rule anything out already.
The fact of the matter is that Modric is not playing much at the moment. There have been suggestions that he is not happy with his new role in the team.
Modric is 38 years of age and does not have a lot of time left in his career. Thus, he surely would want to go out playing rather than warming the bench. As a result, if his situation does not improve over the coming.
With the young crop of promising and quickly developing midfielders Real Madrid has right now, I doubt Luka Modric will see his playing time improve thus a departure from Madrid is possible in Winter or at the end of the season. Toni Kroos on the other hand still has a better chance of seeing his playing time improve due to his younger age and experience in the team. If either of them choose to seek new adventures elsewhere I believe they still have a lot to offer club fortunatel to have them.
I think Luka Modric still have a lot in stock to offer the Los Blancos @38.
But going into history. RM wouldn’t want to keep him.
It is time for the new Generation of footballers to emerge
